Frequently Asked Questions About Spray Foam Roof Coating

  • Why Polyurethane (SPF) Foam Roofing?

Polyurethane foam roofing provides a continuous, seamless insulation system with an R-10 value at a rate of 1 1/2 inches. This waterproofing solution covers your entire roof without seams or joints, offering excellent durability and performance.

  • Can You Foam Over My Existing Roof?

Yes, depending on the type of roof and its condition. For an accurate evaluation, call us, and we will inspect your roof for free and provide a qualified quote.

  • What Is the Longevity or Lifespan of Foam Roofing?

When sprayed correctly with 1 1/2 inches of foam and adequately coated and maintained, a foam roof can last 30 to 40 years with proper maintenance.

  • What Is the Maintenance for a SPF Roof?

To maintain your SPF roof, we recommend an annual inspection. During this inspection, remove leaves, pine needles, and debris from the roof and check for damage or splits in the coating. If we install your roof, Foam America will inspect it for free if needed.

  • Can You Spray a Silicone Coating Over an Elastomeric Coated Roof?

Yes, silicone coating can be applied over an elastomeric-coated roof, provided the existing roof is cleaned first. However, you cannot use an elastomeric coating over a silicone-coated roof. Silicone does not allow other coatings to adhere well—"The only thing that sticks to silicone is silicone itself."

  • Can You Foam Over the Top of My Existing Foamed Roof?

It depends. If your existing foam roof is covered with an elastomeric coating and meets the criteria for being foamed over, we can spray foam over it, but our roofing technicians must apply primer first to ensure proper adhesion.
